(Above Taken from back porch) 11:27pm we finally got to a fishing spot around 6pm Centennial park, an older gentleman told us to try a spot 1/2 mile away... parking spot with poles stuck in dirt...not our kind of spot. The river [Kenai] was large and turquoise, not as brilliant as some that I had seen driving down, but beautiful non the less, it was deep and fast, a bridge to the right and nice houses across the river.
I tried attaching my spinning reel to my new fly rod,but no deal...Time To Fly Fish! Around 30 casts into a black egg-sucking leech with pink egg...Bam! Fish On!! it wasn't a whopper, but the pleasure of a legitimate hookup and was nice. At a spot farther up river, an Inuit looking man told us to try a goos spot b/c we have waders and he doesn't otherwise he would be there. After we arrived to the hole a few minutes later, the guys back upriver had hooked up and landed a nice silver. It made me think the man duped us into hiking down here just to spook the fish up to them. Later we were offered the fish, we declined respectfully.
We stayed until 10:15 or so (above), upon return to the cabin, Joey did not dissappoint with dinner! Joey started "Into the Wild" over so we all could watch it. Ironic that I'm watching a movie of a guy exploring Alaska & writing in his journal as I am doing the same thing, to a lesser degree.
