1:35 stopped at Mt. Elias (two volcanoes) Blaze cooked lunch in parkin lot. Sausages and toast. Smells delicious....yup! delicious. * I'm still awed at every nook and cranny, every turn reveals something completely differnt and equally beautiful. This is not an exaggeration. One could spend a lifetime here and never have the problem of redundancy. * Ohh yeah, picked and ate wild blueberries and cranberries this morning.
2:42pm Just got back on the road after a quick stop at "Knife Man's". This place was quintacential Alaska! Big burly man with a long white beard ( not much unlike Santa Claus) and Mrs not much different than Mrs Claus. The outside was cluttered with moose and caribou antlers and large wood carvings of bears. Inside was a treasure trove of everything Alaska. Old and dusty elk head, brown bear fur, badger, mink, coyoite furs as well. Sweet walking sticks, a small wood stove in the corner, a large piece of whale something?? that had a scene of Eskimos with a dog team chasing a polar bear etched into it. The very few knives that he had in the center of the room on a small table were absolutely beautiful, but way out of our league. Dave did find an awesome pocket knife with a moose etched into it and blaze bought earings for his mom.
5:09 pm Aprox 40 miles to Valdez, Blaze and Dave see a waterfall and thoughts that they could hike to it started flying around. "Where there is a will, there is a way" Blaze said. Unfortunetely it was inaccessible. A few miles later a big glacier ahead (pervious and above) and the "Hike to it" idea was in full swing again. The commitment grew to almost 100% when we see a sign ahead. Turns out it is MT Worthington Glacier and park. We were able to drive right up to it!
